Barcelona
Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital of the Catalonia region. The population of Barcelona currently stands at approximately 1.6 million. A city rich in
tradition
Barcelona attracts thousands of visitors every year drawn in by the city's many attractions. Although Barcelona is said to have been founded by Hercules 400 years before the formation of
Rome it was
the Romans that began to develop the settlement into an important trade centre in 15 BC. Some remains of the Roman town can still be seen
today, including some Roman walls that
have been
incorporated into the La Seu Cathedral. A pleasant year round climate has established Barcelona as a popular city break destination for Brits looking to escape the colder winter weather
in the UK. The
fact that Barcelona offers both a vibrant cultural city as well as three miles of beaches ensures that it is also a great destination in the summer. Amongst the many attractions in
Barcelona is the
Nou Camp football stadium which holds the title of the largest stadium in Europe. Home to one of the most successful football teams in Europe visitors from around the world often
visit to take in an
FC Barcelona match.
Barcelona Airport -
Barcelona Airport often referred to as El Prat Airport is located 10km from the centre of Barcelona in the Catalonia region of
Spain. The airport serves
mainly domestic and European air traffic and in recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of low cost airlines, such as easyJet and WizzAir, that
fly in. The Airport has two
terminals T1 which is a newly built development which opened in 2009 and T2 which is made up of the three previous terminals A, B and C. There are currently three
runways with a forth set to be built
along with a third terminal. Within the terminal buildings you will find a host of shops including the Chocolate Factory, Accessorize, Adidas and Ferrari,
which offers a selection of branded gifts
from the Italian supercar manufacturer, in Terminal One. Whilst Terminal Two offers Lacoste, Gucci, Zara and Nike along with a collection of other popular
stores. Barcelona Airport has five VIP
lounges, three of which are in T1 the Aena's Pau Casal Lounge, the Aena's Miro lounge and the Colomer Lounge. T2 has two lounges the Canudas lounge and the
Dali lounge.
Barcelona is also known as a cruise destination. The harbour of Barcelona or "Port de Barcelona", is a permanent checkpoint for 52 cruise lines. Crystal Cruises, Regent Seven Seas
Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Aida Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Costa Cruceros, MSC and Disney Cruise Line, just to mention a few, stay here with their ships like Aidabella, Norwegian Gem or Seven Seas Voyager
and the passengers can enjoy the city.

It absolutely does not look like they have been away from the stages since 9 years.

  • 22.10.2011 - ETA drops the weapons

Finally the day arrived, all spanish people where waiting for 50years.
The terrorist organisation ETA has officially announced the dropping of their weapons. It have been a lot of years, Euskadi had to live with the dark shadow of indiscriminated and covard killing. Nearly 900 persons where murdered for an ideal that was totally absurd. Hopefully this will be really the end and things like this will never happen again. At least in Spain.
All Spain is extremely happy, but nobody will forget the victims and their families.

  • 08.10.2011 - I Phone 4s

After long weeks of waiting, speculations and lots of things written about it, it's finally here. The I Phone 4s. A lot of people where expecting more. Also a totally new version of the star product from Cupertino, because, to be honest, the only thing Apple has done is to set the things as the concurrence already has done with their products.
Nothing new, nothing innovative, nothing spectacular. Although, the demand and the status of the I Phone are still increasing.
At least, the new phone has a double processor, a better camera and a version with 64GB capacity.
It's the new episode in the brilliant history of this telephone, created by the genius Steve Jobs, who recently died. Rest in peace Steve.....

  • 09.07.2011 - Be aware of the risks in Barcelona

As every year in the summertime, a high number of tourists come to visit Barcelona. Although they might have heard of the sad fact that thieves are "making their job" in public places, it is to be
reminded, that everybody should be very aware of his personal belongings.
The metro, the airport, the trains, the city centre itself.... All these places with a high number of people are their
"playground". To avoid returning at home with a bad taste from the holidays, it is recommended to be very careful. They need only a few seconds, and you sometimes might even not notice the fact that
the wallet is not in your pocket anymore. If you keep this in mind, and take care of some basic preventive methods, your holidays probably will not end up at the police station.....

This sunday, at the Le Mans race of Moto GP, again Dani Pedrosa got seriously injured. At 10 rounds for the end of the race, and beeing in third position, the catalan driver got thrown of his bike by the italian driver Marco Simoncelli.
It was in a heavy overtaking manouver, in which Simoncelli was again too agressive, as during the whole weekend, a thing that was complained by most of the drivers.
Now, Pedrosa has a broken shoulder. Hopefully he will recover until the next race, in three weeks in Montmeló, but again, he had very very bad luck.
    All the best to Pedrosa!

  • 08.05.2011 - Good bye Seve!

After a long fight against cancer, the spanish golf legend Severiano Ballesteros died yesterday surrounded by his family.
It was a long struggle during more than two years and severeal operations, and although it was obvious that he was very ill, he never lost his smile and his will to fight and captivated everybody with his sympathy and his warm character.
Wherever he might be right now, we hope that there will be a big golf court, so he can continue with his passion...
    Good bye Seve!!

  • 21.04.2011 - First big match won by Madrid

Today, Real Madrid won the "Copa del Rey", with a 1-0 against Barça. Although the catalans played much better football and Madrid seemed be more interested in fighting than in playing as well good quality football.
So, "the first round" goes to Real Madrid.
Hopfully Barça wakes up for the Liga and also the Championsleague, because today we can not say, that the best have won.

  • 11.04.2011 - Sebastian Vettel strikes again

The second F1 race of this season was again won by the german champion of last year. The extremly hot weather conditions in Malaysia could not disturb Sebastian Vettel and his strategy, giving him a comfortable and well deserved first place, followed by Jenson Button and Nick Heidfeld. It sems to be that Sebastian and his team, Red Bull, have their "homewrok" well done through the winter and they are showing now that at the moment they seem to be unbeatable.
But there is no time to realax, as there is still a lot of season to race.....

  • 05.04.2011 - Justin Bieber in Barcelona

The teen superstar Justin Bieber is going to give a concert in Barcelona.

  • 02.03.2011 - New speed limit 110km/h

Due to the complicated situation in Libya and the whole arabian world, the petrol prices are continuosly increasing.
Now the spanish government has decided to reduce again the top speed. Not to 80km/h like before, but to 110km/h, to save, as they say, a lot of money to all the drivers.
All these changes are extremly confusing and it is quiet obvius that the "saving" will not be that important as they try to make us believe. The only one who will really take benefit of this is the own government, due to a higher number of speed tickets.

  • 22.02.2011 - We can drive faster

The new catalan government of president Artur Mas, started to make true their biggest promise:
to change again the top speed on the highways from 80km/h to 100km/h or even 120km/h.
    The former
government of now ex-president Montilla, reduced the top speed to 80km/h on all highways close to Barcelona, to "improve" ambiental conditions. But it was nearly ridiculous to drive also during low
traffic conditions, at a top speed like that, and several studies took proof, that the ambiental conditions did also not change that much.
So we can now drive again at a more logical top speed on
every highway and congratulate mister Mas, to be so efficient with one of his promises. We will see if the rest of them will also turn into a real fact so quickly......

For the moment she is spending some days with her family in Baqueira to enjoy the snow there.

  • 20.09.2010 - Michael Bublé in Barcelona

The new star of modern swing comes to visit our country to promote hi's new album "Crazy Love". It will be the 30 of october at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. • 18.08.2010 - Enjoy Barcelona in august!

We are in the middle of august and, as every year, it is the best month to enjoy this wonderful city. Nearly everybody of the locals left, because of their holidays. As consequence, Barcelona is very empty of cars and people, and it is a strange but good atmosphere. Most of the shops are also closed, you can easily find parking places, there are no traffic jams at all, and it is some kind of a "new" Barcelona which appears in this time of the year. Discover the quiet side of Barcelona!

  • 14.07.2010 - Spain is world champion!

The best have won!! After a extremely rough match from the dutch, Spain is new world champion for the first time in their history. Congratulations for this big efford and enjoy it very much! • 08.07.2010 -

Yesterday, after a breathtaking match, Spain wrote football history. For the first time Spain gets classified for a final match in the football world cup. Germany simply had no chance against the spanish players who showed a incredible quality in their play and simply were unstoppable. The few times Germany could get near to Iker Casillas, they simply did not use their chance and the spanish acted like a big wall. It was finally FC Barcelona player Carles Puyol, who served the 0-1 with an incredible head goal and after that, everything was done. Although Germany has showed an incredible play these last weeks, the spanish guys yesterday simply were superior.
